I'm trying to grow my hair out, but have to keep cutting because it starts to look like a mess.

If your trying to let your hair grow out you are going to have to stop cutting so much off. Trim your hair every 4-6wks, and don't take but approx. 1/2" off at those times( unless your hair is damaged, and you trusted stylist feels otherwise) Maintain good environment on your scalp, a proper diet, and get plenty of exercise. Good luck.

Try different styles. There are many products you can try to "calm" your hair down. What exactly is wrong with it?

Amen! Same problem here. And my answer: Experiment! It's amazing what you'll discover. Try a wide variety of shampoos, conditioners, hairsprays, etc... And have fun!

Get a trim every 6 weeks. Your hair will grow in between. When I was growing out my hair, I kept it up in a bun most of the time to keep the moisture.. it helps hair grow. I always wet my hair before I style it- it's easier that way for me. Be careful not to brush wet hair because it breaks. Use a deep conditioner once per week. Style it into a bun while it's wet and alternate with a ponytail for a few months. My hair is down to my lower back. It took a year. It was cut to my shoulder blades.

Good luck.

You have to get through the messy stage. The best news is the hairstyles these days seem messy. You could use headbands and ponytails since it is summer.

It might look messy if you're not conditioning it enough for your hair type. Try a hot oil treatment.

Layers keep hair from looking shaggy. Mousse does wonders to keep in-between lengths from falling out of place until it gets long enough to do something with them.

don't get it cut, get it trimmed and learn some cute styles to suit the occasion. short or long if you experiment at home (or even in a frantic fit 5 min.s before you have to be there!) you are bound to find a fab style for you.

when it gets to that point (when you feel like it looks so bad you HAVE to cut it) wait 2 weeks.

i understand that it's easier said than done, but in 2 weeks it will get past that nasty stage.

i don't know how long it is now or how you want it to be as it grows so i can't give any other suggestions other than wait.

2 weeks is not a very long time if you consider how long you've wanted it longer and how much time you've already invested.

Stop cutting it. That bit about trimming it is a myth. If you have breakages or split ends, there are number of things you can do: rub olive oil on your fingers, and run your fingers through the ends of your hair. Use a hot oil treatment. Use mayo in your hair. Feed your body with more vitamins and nutrition so the hair grows better. If you don't like how it looks as it grows out, then put it up. You just have to cope until it is long enough to tie back with a band or a clip, but after that, there are unlimited things to do with putting up short-ish hair.
